A great series of 1965 mayoral campaign commercials for then City Comptroller Abraham Beame, including: “Bossism,” “Time for a Change,” “Traffic is a Mess,” and “Water” brought to you by the “Beame Team.”
Democratic nominee Abe Beame lost the 1965 mayoral election to Republican John V. Lindsay (William F. Buckley also ran on the Conservative ticket). Beame was later victorious in 1974 when he beat State Senator John Marchi to become the city’s 104th mayor. Beame served one term and was defeated by Ed Koch in 1977.
