Congestion Pricing Ad by wka on Flickr.
Today at a Crain’s New York business breakfast Mayor Bloomberg dropped the blasé monotone that usually marks his public appearances and ripped into U.S. Representative (and likely 2009 mayoral hopeful) Anthony Weiner’s negative position on recent congestion pricing plans. Bloomie blasted the Brooklyn/Queens congressman for his assertion that the pricing plan would cause the city to lose out on large sums of federal transportation aid, and said “that is one of the stupider things I’ve ever heard said.” Now we’ve got a response from Weiner, who recently released a statement that said in part:
I’m interested in solutions, not name calling. I respect the Mayor, but I don’t think the evidence supports trusting President Bush and his cabinet here. In Washington the Administration tries to cut money to roads and to cut mass transit, and then they come to New York City and say they won’t. I’m concerned that New Yorkers will get the short end of the stick.
While Weiner tries to fight back against (dare we say) Mike “Steamroller” Bloomberg, it seems that mysteriously the text of a congestion pricing bill endorsed by the Bloomberg administration has been circulating throughout the Albany State House (sans hearings or debates).
