Anyone know what those pump? monitoring equipment? contraptions are and how they work?

1 axlotl { 12.16.07 at 1:20 pm }: I think those are for monitoring/collection methane and other gasses that result from the decomposition of the garbage buried underneath. They predict that the surface will settle up to 12 feet in some places. The gas is used to power generators that supply electricity to some of the buildings that are there now. It’s going to be an amazing park in 20 years or so. When they were dumping the garbage, they preserved many of the original channels that ran through the wetlands, so the restoration will be that much easier and more natural. The parks dept. gives tours of the site from time to time. Free and fascinating.
